Capt. Mike reported a very good day of local cod fishing today on the Limited Load Summer Cod Special. A rather modest crowd put well over 100 nice cod into the bags and coolers of the customers aboard the Admiral Frances. Capt. Mike reported they were able to drift all day and pick away at nice size market cod with a few bigger fish up to around 15lbs. A good amount of the fish were the beautiful eating size fish in the 8 to 12lb range. Quite a few shorts kept the anglers busy as well today and that is always a welcome sign when cod fishing. Both bait and jigs were working today but bait seemed to have the edge. A few good size ocean perch and a few nice red hake mixed in with the cod and best of all, very very few dog fish. This trip certainly will warrant another outing with that outing planned for this coming Sunday, the 31st, same program as today, leaving at 5am and returning later in the afternoon. Call the office to make a reservation. Some angler hi lights for todays include the following: Matt and Matt from JB Niantic who each took home 7 nice cod apiece while Dave Dowling went home with 8 good keeper cod and had the hi hook honors for the day. Joe and Cindy, longtime regulars also had a great day with a dozen nice cod between them. Cod were caught at every location sampled and Capt. Mike was very very pleased with what he found.
Capt. Rich reported a great day in the sea bass department but a tough day in the fluke department aboard the 7am full day boat. Some anglers did quite well with the sea bass getting more than a half dozen nice size sea bass apiece. Some good size fluke up to 7lbs were taken. Hey, a slow day had to happen with the flatties eventually. Still all in all not a bad day at all and tomorrow is a new day with the Gail Frances set to sail at 7am with Capt. Rich.
Capt. Chris reported a slow evening PM half day. A few good size fluke and one nice sea bass for the handful of anglers aboard. Some good action with the shorts during the first half but for some reason despite a good drift, during the second half the bite just died. Its fishing and it happens that way sometimes. Tomorrow is not only family day on the half day where 2 adults and 2 children can go for $100 plus rod rentals but is also one of the days where we run three half day trips. The half day trips set sail at 8am,1pm and again at 4pm. For anyone that would like to do back to back half days we do offer $10 off the second half day.
