Capt. Rich reported a respectable day of cod fishing although a bit more subdued than Monday. The cod seemed to bite heartily for only a shorter period of time today. Both jigs and bait were working although jigs/tubes did have the edge. Nothing big but a lot of quality market fish with the best into the very low teens. Mark Capalbo from Dumont, NJ took the pool with a fine green cod that cracked the ten pound mark and iced two other nice green cod as well. Don from Bristol Ct was the hi hook for the day icing 7 nice green cod to just under ten pounds. Another angler jigged up five fine green cod to just over twelve pounds but was not in the pool. Troy, a deckhand on a fishing holiday, jigged up four fine green cod to ten pounds and so on. A few good size sea bass, a couple whiting, one 4lb fluke, a couple scup and a handful of good size ocean perch rounded out the day’s catch. A good amount of short cod today as well with many just narrowly missing the 22 inch mark. Gorgeous mid December weather allowed us to drift all day once again. The weather does not look so gorgeous the next two days but we will keep checking Friday’s forecast and will have a decision on Friday by later tomorrow afternoon. Right now the weekend is shaping up to be quite nice although it may be chilly so just wear some extra layers. Through December 31st we sail for cod/sea bass Mon,Wed,Fri and the weekends, excluding Christmas Day of course. Cod/sea bass through Dec 31 departs at 7am.
Capt. Mike reported a very nice finish to the black fish season today with at least a few limit catches and quite a few nice tog to 8lbs and along with the tog a great catch of cod with a good number of the cod taken in the 8 to 10lb range with the biggest in the very low teens. There were a number of anglers aboard with 3 and 4 nice green cod apiece to go along with their tog such as Mike from NY who easily had his limit of tog along with four good size cod fish. Jacob from LI also easily had his full limit of tog once again today. The majority of anglers aboard had both to take home. Great way to end the season! Capt. Mike and Capt.
