Roger reported back that the fluke fishing today was excellent. There was a great turnout of enthusiastic fluke fisher persons who took advantage of nature’s air conditioning while enjoying some great fluke fishing amidst the scenic Block Island landscape. There were quite a few limit catches and plenty of anglers who iced several fine keepers apiece. Most anglers went home with at least a couple for dinner but there were a few sharpies who, believe it or not, had a surprisingly challenging day with the fluke. A dozen or so jumbos today with the best of the lot taking the prize money weighing in at a solid 8lbs. A fair amount of catch and release sea bass and plenty of skates of all sizes when the drift was slow. It was a slow drift kind of day and more of a spro/buck tail kind of a day with the double buck tail rigs generally out producing bait rigs although to be sure some nice slabs were tricked with bait rigs. Yellow, Mylar Green, Pink and Whites were all very effective today. Today was not really a whole squid kind of day as the drift did not pick up until the very end of the trip. Loads of short fluke to keep everyone’s attention in between the keepers and the weather today was truly blue bird with comfortable temps, brilliant sunshine and flat calm seas. Capt. Rich will be at the helm of the Lady Frances tomorrow and set to sail at 7am. Roger will have the Capt. Tackle open by 5am for tackle and ticket sales tomorrow morning. Pictures today are provided courtesy of Roger.
Half Day Fishing also gets underway tomorrow with the Gail Frances set to sail at 8am for the first trip and 1pm for the second trip. If anyone is interested in doing back to back half days they can receive $15 off of the second half day ticket price. Fishing along the beach has been quite good the past few weeks (fish to over 7lbs reported from a few of our crew members who fish in their own boats) we look forward to some steady beach fishing via the half days in the coming weeks.
