First mate General Manager/Dock Manager Capt Cory Blount reported a solid start to the 2016 fall cod season. A great turnout of enthusiastic cod fishers took advantage of today’s bluebird weather and hopped aboard the Gail Frances. Capt. Rich was pleased to find a pick of cod on each area he sampled. Some nice size fish in the mix with the pool fish a handsome 22 lb specimen that fell victim to a diamond jig right at the end of the trip! A handful of other nice cod north of 15 lbs as well. The rest of the cod catch kept ranged from just keeper size fish to ten pounders. Hi hook boxed seven keeper cod and several other fishers boxed several nice cod apiece. A lot of big porgies and some sea bass mixed in as well as a nice mess of red hake, big ocean perch (some the size of legal tatoug!!), and a handful of big sea flounders to 4 lbs rounded out the take. A fair amount of shorties too but the majority of cod were keepers today. Tomorrow sounds like another good fishing day and the Gail Frances will set sail at 7 am. Some great pictures today showcasing a few of the angler hi lights courtesy of longtime regular customer Ginny Reed and Cory.
Capt. George reported the full day charter for the GEM Plumbing group found a few fluke, a bunch of sea bass and some nice size porgies.
