Roger reported a very good day of cod fishing today. Customers chipped away at the cod all day long, drift after drift. No bonanzas but steady flurries really added up by the end of the day. The fish were remarkably spread out as well with the vast majority of fishers aboard leaving with a cod or two for a few good meals and a decent amount of fishers having three or four but we are not sure that anyone fisher had 5 keepers and only a scant few did not have any to bring home. Not bad for a rather enthusiastic turnout. Again a lot of gaffers today with about two thirds of the cod in the 8 to 12 lb range with a handful of bigger ones to 16 lbs or so. Some smaller keepers today and a fair amount of shorties. A good amount of big scup today with some of them pushing the 3 lb mark!! Some fishers had upwards to 15-20 big scup apiece. A decent amount of sea bass to 5 lbs with a few fishers such as Mr. Rick from Belchertown MA grabbing an easy limit. A lot of good size ling today with some truly outsize specimens in the 3-4 lb range and a lot of good size ocean perch, a handful of big sea flounder to over 4 lbs and a six pound fluke complimented what was mostly beautiful green cod fish with just a scant few darker fish mixing in. Some stunning looking coolers once again today! Again the unmentionables were hardly worth a mention but what was interesting today was that the cod fish were taken on both higher and lower hooks, in fact most of the bigger cod on a hook that fell just near or above the sinker and the cod seemed to greatly prefer fresh shucked clam baits today with just a couple falling for the iron. A few pictures today courtesy of Roger. Next cod fish trip sets Friday morning at 7 am aboard the Gail Frances with Capt. Rich.
