Roger reported a breathtakingly beautiful day on the water today and good fishing to go along with. We had a sizeable bump north in our cod catch today and the average size fish was generally back up in the 8-12 lb range with the pool fish comfortably in the mid teens. There were some smaller keepers as well. It was a very good day to swing a jig. Just ask Orlando from Stamford CT who boxed seven beautiful cod in the 8 to 12 lb range, all on the iron. Orlando is by far one of the most exceptionally talented rod handlers who fishes with us and it is a pleasure and honor to watch him in action. Well done Lucky! A handful of other fishers boxed three or four nice green cod fish apiece including Mr. Phillips from NY who jigged up three good cod in the 8 to 12 lb range. General Manager Cory Blount jigged up a couple nice green cod and first mate Greg on a busman’s holiday lost a heartbreaking steaker on a jig just below the surface estimated at well over 20lbs only feet from the safety of a sharp gaff. Mr. Phillips and Orlando also both reported dropping big cod fish on jigs today as well so the big cod are still around and on the prowl but proved to outsmart fishers today anyways. Fresh shucked clams also produced their fair share of nice green cod fish today as well. A really handsome amount of super size scup today with many fish in the 2 to 2.5 lb range and some fishers easily filled two to three buckets apiece with them. Not sure if anyone had 45 but several fishers had 30-35 and it did not take many to fill a bucket. We also had some big borderline gator size blue fish for those fishers who were swinging iron. We had a beautiful keeper fluke, and a big pile of ocean perch including some honest 2 lbrs. A few fishers filled a full five gallon pail with those delicious relatives of the tatoug family. We did have a few unmentionables today but overall they were not bad at all. Next cod trip is set to sail Wednesday at 7 am aboard the Gail Frances with Capt. Rich.
