Capt. Ray reported a tough night of fishing. They only managed a few Stripers and those that they had were keepers, not the big fish of the past two nights. There was a fair number of blue fish but overall it was just a slow night, no two ways about it! We do not know why it was so much slower after all the good fishing right after Irene but one thing that fishing has taught this writer over the years is that it is most predictably undpredictable and that everyday is different. Weather looks good again tonight and we will try again and Capt. Ray looks forward to setting sail on the Gail Frances at 7pm. Plenty of room still available so if interested please give us a call to make a reservation.
GOOD FISHING AND GREAT WEATHER TODAY ON THE 7AM FULL DAY BOAT, FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 2ND 2011!!
Capt. Rich reported a great mixed bag of bottom dwellers today on the 7am full day. The catch included some big fluke to just over 9lbs with the big fish honors going to Robbie Cox of Old Saybrook,CT. Mr. Kim from the NYC metro area took the pool with a fine slab of 8lbs today and there were a decent number of other jumbo fluke scattered all around the boat today. The bigger story today was the good number of sea bass taken all around the boat by anglers. Mostly all nice stuff with the best of the lot going at least 5lbs. Numbers varied but many anglers had four to six jumbo sea bass apiece. An pleasant surprise was the number of slammer scup up to 3lbs taken today and there was a nice array of blue fish of mixed sizes although Sean Hart put a true alligator of at least 12lbs safely aboard the Gail Frances today. Anglers were also treated to the sight of a giant sea turtle today who took a ride by the boat today around midday. The enormous leatherback was probably at least several hundred pounds! Long leadered bait rigs with green or white bucktails today seemed to be the most effective fish catching rigs although all terminal gear was effective. Capt. Rich looks forward to more good weather and fishing tomorrow with the Gail Frances set to sail at 7am.
Capt. Mike reported a good morning of half day fishing with quite a few nice size sea bass but not much in the way of the fluke today. Well the weather was great and everyday is different! Just one half day tomorow morning set to sail on the Admiral Frances at 8am.
BIG FISH BUT LATE BITE ON LAST NIGHT’S STRIPER TRIP, REPORT FOR THURSDAY NIGHT SEPTEMBER 1ST 2011
Capt. Ray reported the Striper fishing for another very light crowd was slow to start but fortunately there was a late night bite. While there were not as many fish taken as we would have hoped for, Stripers to nearly 40lbs were boated. A couple pics of the big fish for last night will appear above this report. Congrats to Charlie Bushman of Fall River on his linesider that went just under 40lbs. There was one limit catch last night. There were other big Stripers that were lost and all night long the machine was just lit up with fish. Some of the season’s best Bassing is yet to come feel most of us here. A handful of fair size blue fish complimented the nice size bass. Plenty of room on the Night Bass trips tonight through Sunday so call the office if interested in going to make a reservation.
7AM FULL DAY REPORT/TUNA REPORT, THURSDAY AFTERNOON SEPTEMBER 1ST 2011
Capt. Rich reported an okay day of fishing for Fluke and Sea Bass. Not as many big fish as yesterday with the pool fish around 8lbs and a handful of quality flatties in the 4lb range but mostly just nice keepers. Hi hook had four keeper fluke. A fair number of sea bass mixed in as well including some really nice size fish up to 3lbs plus a handful or two of big porgies and a few blue fish of mixed sizes. The big blue fish were on the half day this morning! Capt. Rich reported long leadered bait rigs with small spinners were the way to go today where as yesterday it was more about bucktails so it pays to have an array of fluke tackle to be prepared for a range of fish preferences. Still all in all a respectable day of fishing and continuing the theme of fishing being much better than had been expected after such a storm. Capt. Rich looks forward to more fine weather and good fishing tomorrow with the Gail Frances set to sail at 7am.
Capt. Mike reported the first Long Range Tuna Trip did not quite meet the expectations of the crew. The fishing was undoubtedly disturbed a bit by Irene. Nevertheless there was a bit of a bite with a handful of Yellows up to 60lbs, a 50lb Wahoo, a fine 150lb Sword fish and a big pile of Mahis. Some anglers did very well with Mahis catching upwards to a dozen apiece. That however is the report for this past trip. Capt. Mike looks forward to better days ahead. The next scheduled Long Range Tuna trip sets sail Monday Night at 10pm, still some spots available so if interested in booking call the office.
VERY GOOD MORNING HALF DAY TODAY, THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 1ST 2011!
Capt. Chris reported a very good morning half day of fishing for the very light crowd of anglers who decided to join us on a blue bird early September morning. A nice shot of good size fluke to 8lbs and a lot of good size sea bass in the two to four pound range today. The fish were generally rather spread out and everyone left with something for the table. A few guys using whole squid did very well with several nice size sea bass apiece to take home. Hi hook on the fluke had three keepers. Some short fluke and sea bass in between the keepers to keep anglers entertained at the rails. Next half day trip will set sail tomorrow morning at 8am on the Admiral Frances with Capt. Chris.
STRIPER FISHING REBOUNDS STRONG AFTER IRENE!! STRIPER REPORT FOR WEDNESDAY NIGHT, AUGUST 31ST 2011
Capt. Ray and first mate Derrek were pleased to report that the Striper fishing was excellent last night. Looks like Irene shook the Stripers onto the feed bag. Too bad only a handful of anglers were able to enjoy the great weather and excellent fishing. Biggest fish was around 30lbs and there were several others in the 20’s. In fact most were over 15lbs so pretty much all quality fish. There were a number of limits and there probably shouldve been more but unfortunately some Stripers were victorious in the man vs beast battle. Some hefty blue fish mixed in as well. Capt. Ray looks forward to another great night of weather tonight and more good fishing with the Gail Frances set to sail at 7pm, plenty of openings tonight and right through the Holiday Weekend so please call the office to make a reservation. Remember this is the last week we are sailing during the week for Stripers, trips are planned Thursday through Sunday Night. Starting NEXT WEEK we will sail only on Saturday Nights for Stripers.
