As far as ANY of us here at the Frances Fleet are concerned, today’s fishing on the first 7am full day trip after Irene ravaged our local waters, FAR EXCEEDED any possible expectations that any of us could have had. To be blunt and fair it would not have been surprising after such a blow if there was going to be some trouble even settling the pool but today’s fishing was downright respectable to good on any given day and AMAZING only three days after such a blow! Longtime regular Robert Lee from Demerest NJ took the pool with a fine 9.2lb slab that just narrowly beat out another fish of 8.7lbs and a few others in the 8lb range. Robert amassed a total of 5 fine keeper fluke and a half a dozen jumbo sea bass, most of which were in the 3-4lb range. The word for the rest of the crew was of good sea bass fishing with a lot of jumbo sea bass taken, most in the 2 to 4lb range with a few bigger ones mixed in, some nice size fluke and some short fluke. Quite a few big porgies to well over 2lbs, and a few good size ocean blues. A number of other anglers also had several good size sea bass apiece to go along with at least a few good size keeper fluke. Again awesome for soon after such a horrific weekend of weather. First mate Derrick reported that double white small bucktails fished hi lo style was the hot ticket today although nice fluke and sea bass were taken on various types of terminal gear. Capt. Rich looks foward to another gorgeous day of weather tomorrow with the Gail Frances set to sail at 7am.
MORNING HALF DAY FISHING REPORT FOR TUESDAY AUGUST 30TH 2011
The report from the morning half day today was actually a bit better than expected only two days past a hurricane. They did find a couple keeper fluke and a handful of keeper sea bass plus a blue fish and a few short fluke and short sea bass. Each day will likely see improvement in the fishing. The 7am full day boat did not make it out today but will try again tomorrow and the fact that there was a little bit of a bite inside is likely a good sign for the full day trip. Weather looks great the next few days and into the holiday weekend so come down and wet a line!
MONDAY MORNING UPDATE, AUGUST 29TH 2011
First of all we would like to let our customers know that the Frances Fleet and the headquaters of the FF (Capt.Tackle) survived Hurricane Irene just fine. Unfortunately our internet is down so please DO NOT EMAIL us for the time being. We are very close to a decision regarding tonight’s Tuna trip and it looks like a go, the Tuna trip would leave this evening at 10pm. Check in to the office preferably by 9pm.
Tomorrow’s fishing schedule for Tuesday, August 30th is as follows: There will be the 7am full day trip from 7am to 4pm on the Gail Frances with Capt. Rich and there will be a morning half day fishing trip from 8am to Noon and again from 1pm to 5pm on the Lady Frances with Capt. Chris. There WILL NOT BE a 4pm to 8pm half day trip tomorrow and also on that note the 4pm to 8pm half days are going to be retired for the season until next summer.
GOOD FISHING AND INCREDIBLE WEATHER TODAY ON THE FULL DAY BOAT WITH CAPT. RICH ON THE GAIL FRANCES!!
Capt. Rich was pleased to report that for the modest group of anglers who joined us today, there was some good fishing and the weather was just awesome. It was a slow but steady pick throughout the day with actually somewhat better results for those who were fishing in the shade under the boat! Still just about everyone went home with a nice bag of fillets for some great meals to come. There were some sea bass mixed in with the fluke today including some hefty specimens over 3lbs but once again the fluke definitely stole the show once again and a lot of the anglers aboard went home with four to seven (limit) nice size fluke apiece including quite a few jumbos in the four to five pound range with a few bigger ones to 7.5lbs for the big fish honors. All terminal gear seemed to work equally well today with plain bait on a hook or white fly with boat bait being about the best. Everyday is different and yesterday green was the hot color. Capt. Rich reported seeing a good amount of bait on the grounds today. What will happen after Irene rolls through is a question mark and we wont know until she speaks her peace. There is no fishing this weekend. As for this coming week, stay tuned to the web site for updates as to when we plan on resuming fishing next week. We would like to wish everyone a safe and healthy weekend and keep the thoughts of the great fall fishing to come in the week’s ahead!
NO TRIPS THIS WEEKEND
Please note: DUE TO HURRICANE IRENE, NO TRIPS WILL BE SAILING THIS SATURDAY, SUNDAY OR MONDAY, AUGUST 27th to 29th.
The Long Range Tuna trip scheduled to leave Monday (AUG 29th) will possibly sail Tuesday morning. Reservation holders will be notified (by phone) of any changes.

EXCELLENT FISHING TODAY ON THE 7AM FULL DAY BOAT TODAY, THURSDAY AUGUST 25TH 2011!!/ ONE FULL DAY TRIP TOMORROW, FRIDAY AUGUST 26TH 730AM TO 4PM, $75 FARE
Capt. Rich reported a great day of fluke fishing today on the Gail Frances. Although the conditions were somewhat sporty(having NOTHING to do with Irene) but rather the current weather system, the fluke were indeed snapping! There were a good number of limits and the majority of anglers aboard had four to six nice fluke apiece. Long leadered bait rigs whether spinner with mylar/big rubber squid or rental rod set ups were all productive in the highly efficient drift condtions. Plenty of shorts as well to keep the anglers busy and entertained at the rails. A good amount of quality fluke in the three to five pound range but nothing huge with the best around six pounds for the day. In fact that six pound fluke just narrowly beat out a five and a half pound sea bass for bragging rights! Longtime regular Ed Pol took the pool honors today. As for sea bass numbers overall they were okay with a respectable number of quality biscuts taken but the fluke were the headliners today on the 7am full day boat. Again to reiterate what is in the headlines, there will be one full day boat tomorrow from 730am to 4pm sailing for fluke and sea bass on the Gail Frances. The cost will be $75 per fare. Capt’s Tackle as usual will be open at 5am. A few pics will be posted, courtesy of Roger to showcase a smidge of today’s angler hi lights.
