Capt. Mike reported a good day of fluking down the beach. Ken B from Stamford was hi hook with six keepers and had the pool fish of 5lbs. A number of other anglers had three and four fish apiece as well. While it may not be rock star fishing, it is not bad at all and things continue to head in the right direction. Quite a few shorts in the mix too to keep anglers busy in between keepers. Capt. Rich looks forward to fluking tomorrow with the Lady Frances set to sail at 7am.
GOOD SQUID FISHING CONTINUES AT THE FRANCES FLEET WITH LAST NIGHT’S TRIP, THURSDAY JUNE 2ND NO EXCEPTION!!
Capt. Ray reported that even though it felt more like early October last night, the squid did not seem to mind as they were as active as ever. It took about an hour and a half to really get them going but once they started, a solid pick ensued the rest of the evening. Sizes were mixed but still plenty of super size tubes up to 20 inches in the mix. The catch did vary some from angler to angler but the hi hooks filled a full five gallon pail with the tasty mollusks. A few anglers had very good luck sight fishing for the squid later in the evening as they came to the surface to feed on minnows. As of yet there has been no sign of the squid spawn which means the squid are still very aggressively feeding. Once they spawn they become a bit more tricky to catch but good fishing can certainly still be had and for those who do not remember, last year featured good fishing for squid for those who put in a focused effort, well into July along the beach and thus far there is no indication that this year will be any different! A mix of scup, good size sea bass, small fluke, tatoug and a few hefty sea robins were all released to fight again another day but certainly added some variety to the evening. Capt. Ray looks forward to another great night of squid fishing tonight with the Lady Frances setting sail at 7pm and there is plenty of room the next three nights so call the office to make a reservation!
SOLID FLUKE FISHING DESPITE TOUGH CONDITIONS TODAY THURSDAY JUNE 2ND 2011 ON THE GAIL FRANCES!
Capt. Rich reported a respectable day of fluking despite some very trying conditions mainly in the form of very strong west to northwest winds producing a very fast drift. Hi hook did manage to put away four nice keepers and most had enough for dinner anyway. Nothing big with the best around 4lbs. Capt. Mike is at the helm tomorrow with the Lady Frances set to sail at 7am. Capt. Mike and Roger were out today doing a little research very close to home and found a nice charge of fluke with quite a few jumbos to nearly 7lbs before the winds sent them back in. Things continue to get better by the day!
Capt. Ray will be out squid fishing again tonight hoping for a repeat of last night’s good action. Plenty of room Friday and Saturday Night on the squid trips so call the office to make a reservation!

Thursday June 2nd
Capt. Ray reported a very good night of squid fishing. Only a handful of anglers on board, most of whom had at least a 1/2 bucket of squid, some had close to a full bucket. Anglers also enjoyed some excellent fishing, including stripers, blues, tautog and seabass, only keeping what was in season, of course. But nonetheless enjoying the action. The weather, despite the forecast, really turned out pretty good. They had a front come through with some heavy rain, but it didn’t last long and anglers were quickly back at the rail. Capt Ray is heading out again tonight, so dont miss out on the action, give the office a call to make a reservation.
GOOD DAY OF FLUKING WEDNESDAY JUNE 1ST 2011 ON THE GAIL FRANCES!
Capt. Rich reported the local fluke fishing was good yesterday with a handful of anglers putting together a nice pile of keepers to 7lbs. Hi hooks were just shy of a limit at 6 keepers apiece. Capt. Rich will be out again today so look for a fresh report later this afternoon. Plenty of room on tonight’s squid trip so call the office if interested in making a reservation. Early results of last night’s squid trip indicate that fishing was off to a very good start and a full report will be available by later this morning.
EXCELLENT COD AND POLLOCK FISHING ON THE THREE DAY CAPT SPECIAL/SQUID FISHING REPORT FOR SUNDAY NIGHT MAY 29TH 2011
Capt. Mike called in to relay that the Memorial Day Weekend Capt. Special was very good with plenty of nice market cod and market size pollock to go around with a few nice haddock thrown in for good measure. Congrats to Lisa Loprenzo from Stamford CT who took the pool with a cod in the low to mid teens!! Lisa also had her limit of cod everyday, way to go Lisa! Capt. Mike reported that most of the damage was done on jigs and teasers but that some fish were taken by those choosing to dunk bait.
Capt. Ray reported squid fishing was a touch more relaxed overall last night but respectable nonetheless. A great turnout of enthusiastic anglers aboard the boat but results were mixed with some anglers really excelling with a half to even three quaters of a five gallon pail and some having much less. Some short fluke, big sea robins, skates and some trophy sea bass were all released to fight another day in the finfish department. Still will go down in the logs as a good trip and Capt. Ray looks forward to another nice night of squid fishing with hopefully a lot less fog this coming Wednesday Night at 7pm. Please call the office if interested in booking a reservation.
